Healthy Kids Menu’s, South Australia

In frustration with the quality of healthy food available on kids menus in South Australian pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafes, SA Premier Jay Weatherilll convened the Healthy Kids Menu Taskforce with SA Health.

Commissioning democracyCo to design the year long deliberative process, and also facilitate the workings of the high level taskforce the Taskforce met monthly with a clear aim to develop an intelligent piece of public policy, which can be read here.

This Taskforce consisted of multiple partners with very many competing needs. The Taskforce included: Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health the Hon Leesa Vlahos MP, Clubs SA, Restaurant and Catering Association SA, Australian Hotels Association SA, CSIRO, The Heart Foundation, SA Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), SA Health, Department of the Premier and Cabinet and a wonderful contribution from 3 dedicated and insightful parents. In 2016, the Taskforce has moved into implementation mode with the extra support of Flinders University and the University of SA.

You can read more about the Taskforce and their work here.
